Portable electric vehicle charging station shows potential

Sam Elliott, living in Texas, has a YouTube channel called Innovative Sustainable Solutions where he has recently been showing videos of his progress in creating a portable electric vehicle charging station.

The portable charger has been tested on a 2011 Nissan LEAF, with a degraded battery. Using solar panels, batteries, an inverter and other equipment mounted inside the boot of the car, Elliott has tested his first set up of the portable charger.

Using the solar panels to charge his car during a working day, Elliott was able to add 17miles (27.3km) of range while the car was parked for 12.5 hours. He claims he could easily double this amount within the next year by using more solar panels and better batteries.
