The phone is equipped with solar cells which charge the phone when exposed to direct sunlight. According to KDDI Corporation ten minutes of sunlight will give users approximately one minute of talk time, or standby time of around two hours. The battery may not charge if the amount of light is insufficient or if the light does not hit the solar panel directly, and it cannot be charged under lighting equipment. If the phone's power runs out during a call, the solar charging will begin immediately.
The Solar Phone SH002 is waterproof (to IPX5/IPX7 standards). Other features of the phone include use of all au Smart Sports features, including calculation of remaining yards to the hole using the GPS Golf Navigation application. The phone also features a pedometer that measures distance travelled and intensity of workout.
