With recent research into creating self-powering devices, industrial designers are working on gadgets that can be powered sustainably by harvesting clean energy from the atmosphere. Working on this theme, industrial designer Petr Kubík has produced a concept alarm clock intended to mimic the earth.

The alarm clock is spherical like the Earth and uses solar energy for power. The clock can be placed outdoors for harvesting solar energy, which is converted into usable electricity and stored in an onboard battery. The clock's "protective atmosphere" is a silicone layer under which are the solar cells and OLED display.
