Wind powered phone charger

Industrial designer Tjeerd Veenhoven, from the Netherlands, has come up with the Ifan. A hardware application in the shape of a soft rubber skin including an energy harvesting wind fan which slides around an iphone and recharges the phone when the wind blows.

According to the designer, a Smartphone relies on high tech battery power and power management which requires the phone to be charged daily taking around half an hour. By using a modified computer fan it took Veenhoven 6 hours to charge an iphone.

Veenhoven says he can shave off many charging hours by redesigning the fan blades, making it more efficient in catching the wind and thinks his device would be ideal for use while sun bathing at the beach, doing walking trips in the mountains or just holding it outside your a car window while driving.
