Samsung Electronics is releasing a solar powered netbook, the Samsung NC215S, onto the Russian market in August. The solar powered netbook is equipped with a solar panels built into its lid, and according to Samsung two hours of charging in sunlight provides up to an hour of use with a battery life of 14.5 hours.
The NC215S netbook has a conventional netbook configuration with a 10.1in, 1024 x 600-pixel display and a weight of 1.3kg. It is powered by Intel Atom N570 (1.66 GHz) dual-core processor, 1GB of Ram and a 250GB or 320GB drive. The netbook has a very low power and is made of materials that are easily recyclable. NC215S provides a high quality picture with a screen 50% brighter than competing netbooks, and low noise.
Samsung says that with the USB-port Sleep-and-Charge, the netbook can charge portable devices such as smartphones or MP3-players, even if the computer is in sleep mode or turned off. And if the battery is discharged, devices can be charged through the use of solar energy.
